'Himalayan Foothills Trek' is one of the best trips to experience the unique Himalayan culture and traditions along with a pleasant trekking at the foothills of the Himalayas. The trek passes through the popular villages of brave Gurkha soldiers in the most beautiful Annapurna region of Nepal. You will hike for 4 days through picturesque villages and valleys, staying at local lodges, mixing with the people and their unique way of life and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. The trip is combined with the World Heritage sites of Kathmandu, colorful Lake City Pokhara and Mountain & Gurkha Museums. Overall, the trip is a unique blend of cultural, historical and natural experiences.

About Hike: This hike is moderate and does not require any previous hiking experience. It only requires that you be able to hike for 3-4 hours a day over hilly terrain with uphill and downhill. The walking hours mentioned in the itinerary are slow pace walking with several breaks. Your duffel bag will be carried by a porter. You have to carry only a light day-pack with water bottle, camera etc.

Accommodation & food on hike: The accommodation on trek at local lodges are basic, but better than other regions. Rooms are clean & comfortable with attached bathrooms except one night. Foods are fresh but simple such as rice, vegetables, lentils, chickens, bread, butter, cheese, eggs, soups, cereals, tea, coffee etc.

  • Day 1
    Arrive in Kathamndu (1350m):
    Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Then, you will be briefed about your program. Venture out if time permits.

  • Day 2
    Sightseeing in Kathmandu:
    The rich tapestry of the cultural heritage of Nepal is synthesized in Kathmandu Valley, representing elegant architecture, refined culture, colorful bazaars and simple hospitable people.

    After a leisurely breakfast, visit Patan, the first city of Nepal. The ancient name of Patan is Lalitpur, meaning city of beauty. The city is believed to be the first settlement in the Valley and famous for its amazing collection of fantastically carved temples and palace courtyards. Patan is also famous for metal crafts. Then, visit Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa of Nepal and a site of great veneration, and Tibetan culture. Visit Tibetan monastery and painting school.

    Note: Today you will have an option of Everest flight to view Mt. Everest and other Himalayan ranges. The flight is of 1 hour and takes place in the early morning. Let us know if you are interested.
  • Day 3
    Fly to Pokhara (850m):
    A short and scenic flight will take you to the beautiful town Pokhara. The lush natural beauty of Pokhara contrasted with spectacular Mountain views and tranquil lake has quietly won the hearts of travelers from around the world. After check-in at the hotel, visit International Mountain museums that showcase the information and history of mountain and mountaineers. Stop for lunch at Lakeside, then visit the famous Gurkha Memorial Museum. Stroll around the colorful lakeside in the evening.

  • Day 4
    Trek to Astamkot (1500m) / 3 ½ hours trek:
    Take a short drive for about 30 minutes to the town of Milan Chowk (860m) , where the hike begins from. The hike start with a gradual uphill through the forest with views across the Mardi Khola (river). Today’s entire walk is uphill through the forest which takes about 3 ½ hours. Once you arrive at Astamkot, you will be amazed by 360 degree views of the entire Pokhara, Hemja, and Mardi valley with majestic views of the Himalayas in the backdrop. It is also one of the best places to view a sunset and sunrise in the Himalayas. After lunch, walk along the village to get an insight into rural village life of people living in these mid-hills for generations.

  • Day 5
    Trek to Dhampus (1700m) / 4 hours walk:
    Today’s walk to Dhampus is very pleasant with breathtaking views of the Himalayas on the right and valleys on the left. The trek begins with climbing stone staircases about 1 ½ hours. In about 4 hours’ medium pace walk, you will reach at the beautiful village of Dhampus. Situated on a ridge with breathtaking views of the Himalayas, Dhampus is a beautiful Gurung village with stone houses and home of famous Gurkha soldiers. After lunch, explore the village and try to meet a ex-Gurkha.

  • Day 6
    Trek to Landruk (1620m) / 5 hours walk:
    Walk through a beautiful forest passing the village of Pothana where your Annapurna Conservation Area permit is checked. Then you will walk on a gravel path with switchbacks to the village of Tolka. From Tolka, the trail is almost level and passes through beautiful hamlets and fields. Landruk is a picturesque village above the Modi River with close up views of Annapurna and Fish Tail mountains.

  • Day 7
    Trek to Ghandruk (2000m) / 4 hours walk:
    From Landruk, the trail makes a steep descent through terraced fields to Modi River. Crossing the river on a suspension bridge, the train climbs all the way to the Ghandruk village.

    Ghandruk is one of the most beautiful villages of Nepal and home of brave Gurkha soldiers. Explore the village and visit a local museum in the afternoon.

  • Day 8
    Drive to Pokhara (1 ½ hours’ drive):
    After a leisurely breakfast, take a beautiful drive to Pokhara. The drive is downhill on a graveled road in the beginning, then on a paved road. After check -in at the hotel and freshening up, you will have free time to explore beautiful city of Pokhara on your own or just rest or relax at massage spa. You can also take a boat ride on the Fewa Lake.

    Drive to Kathmandu:
    After a leisurely breakfast, take a 6 hours scenic drive to Kathmandu. Rest of the day in leisure.
